
This is according to the AKCs (American Kennel Club) standards. The Yorkshire terrier is of small stature with a small head which should be flat and not too round and the muzzle not too long. The head should also be held upright in a confident manner. The small V shaped ears should be set high like the eyes not too far apart and should be carried as the rest of the body, erect and tall. The Yorkies teeth should be well maintained and not have an under or overbite, a scissors bite or a level bite is acceptable. A Yorkie has dark eyes not too far apart or prominent and should be sparkling with what is described as an intelligent expression. A Yorkies terrier should not weigh more than 7 pounds and is typically 8 to 9 inches which qualifies in the toy category. The build of the dog should be compact and well proportioned with its back level from the base of the neck to the base of the tail which should be held high.
