The typical weight of the Yorkie should never exceed 7 pounds. It is very easy however to overfeed a Yorkie which can be serious and common in small breeds. It is important to try and avoid over feeding as this could lead to things such as diabetes, joint problems or even kidney failure. Yorkshire terriers actually need very little food compared to other breeds so it is important you maintain a healthy diet and weight to avoid future problems. It is also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle for the dog as vet bills tend to be high and regular check ups are advised. Yorkies also tend to develop bad teeth because of their small mouths can become over crowded. It is important that you check their teeth regularly and if the milk or baby teeth have not fallen out by the time the dog is 7 – 8 months they may have to be removed by a vet.
